My five year learning plan is to 1) obtain a project management professional (PMP) certification through the Project Management Institute (PMI), and 2) pursue a doctorate in education (EdD), with a specialization in organizational leadership.
To pursue these goals, I am currently enrolled in a PMP course through Syracuse University's Onward to Opportunity program, which is a part of the University's Institute for Veteran's and Military Families (IVMF) outreach program. My plan is to complete this online program and prepare to take the test for/successfully complete the PMP certification process by June of 2019.
Next, I plan to enroll in Aspen University's Doctorate of Education in Leadership and Learning - Organizational Leadership EdD program. I plan to complete this program no later than 2021 or 2022.
To maintain my instructional design and learning technology skills, I plan to continue a plan of lifelong learning using sites such as LinkedIn Learning and edX. I will also attend education and learning design conferences/seminars as available and time/schedule permits. I am currently registered as a guest lecturer at the 2019 Space Port Area Conference for Educators (SPACE), hosted by NASA Education and the Astronaut Memorial Foundation at Kennedy Space Center, Florida (July 2019).
This article - "How to be Employable Forever" - by Tom Vander Ark on Forbes really highlights both my professional learning philosophy and my five-year professional learning plan. The section of the article that addresses a re-imagination of higher education is particularly enlightening for an instructional designer:
"Education for the innovation economy is not just about knowledge and skill, argues Miller, it’s about mindset--collaborative, interdisciplinary, ethical, empathetic, entrepreneurial and global."
