I'm experienced in developing training programs and teaching government, civilian, and academic learners. I'm comfortable designing, developing, and facilitating learning for a wide variety of subjects.
I'm interested in designing and developing eLearning and in-person courses, technical training, and professional development for government and the commercial aerospace industry, public and private K-12 learning, and higher education. I have completed an edX MicroMasters certificate program in instructional design and technology (2018) and a Master of Science degree in learning design and technology from the University of Maryland University College with a 4.0 GPA (2019). Accepted to the Syracuse University Onward to Opportunity (O2O) Project Management Professional certification program, March 2019 cohort.
I have 31+ years of experience as a U.S. Army Military Police noncommissioned officer and Florida certified law enforcement officer, experienced in managing law enforcement and security operations, including personal security, sensitive site security, and antiterrorism/force protection program management. Additionally, I'm experienced designing, resourcing and evaluating pre-deployment and mandatory training programs for U.S. Army and Department of Defense personnel, evaluating standards-based performance, and leading multi-echelon training management and daily operations. I have a current secret security clearance.

The audience for this course will be adult learners pursuing either an audit or verified learning track, and who are interested in open education and open pedagogy, the benefits of using open education, and exploring the benefits and drawbacks of using OER in education.

Selected by the UMUC Learning Design and Technology Program Chair, Dr. Randy Hansen, as the group leader for a course redesign and development project of edX LDT 100x, Instructional Design and Technology: Learning Theories course. This 8-week long online course is part of a 4-course MicroMasters program hosted on the edX Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) platform and is facilitated by UMUC faculty. Utilizing the instructional design thinking process, the group has focused on designing, developing, and implementing a redesigned project-based course that more thoroughly engages learners, better incorporates engaging and adaptive learning technologies and media, allows students to better apply acquired knowledge of learning theories, improves student retention and course completion rates, incorporates deliberative practice focused on real-world application, and incorporates multiple learning modalities and a more intuitive course navigation. Full-time teacher with the Osceola County School District, teaching 10th grade World History and 9th grade Introduction to the Social Sciences at St. Cloud High School. Primary responsibilities include: Teaching students about world history and discussing important figures, dates, and events that have shaped our modern world. Creates instructional resources for use in the classroom, including planning, preparing and delivering instructional activities to enhance student learning and understanding. Utilizes curricula that reflect the diverse educational, cultural, and linguistic backgrounds of the enrolled students. Taught U.S. Civics, Character Development, and Career Planning for middle school (7th - 8th grade) students at Acclaim Academy Charter School, a military-style charter school in Osceola County, Florida. Demonstrably increased the school's Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test (FCAT) Civics ranking within the county from last in the county (2013-2014) to better than 5 other district schools during school year 2014-2015. Transitioned to full-time employment as an employee of Osceola County School District at the end of the school year.

Military Police Non-commissioned Officer, 1987-present
Trainer/Mentor, Operations Sergeant, First Sergeant, Operations Sergeant Major, Military Police. Current duties: Brigade Operations Sergeant Major. Military Police noncommissioned officer with service in the Regular Army, Florida Army National Guard, and U.S. Army Reserves. Performed a myriad of duties including the senior operations trainer/mentor for a team of highly-trained commissioned and noncommissioned officers, preparing units for deployments to worldwide combat zones to conduct varied missions. Specialized in training law enforcement and detention operations, including antiterrorism/force protection, mountain bike patrol, tactical pistol, and special weapons and tactics (SWAT). Certified First Army Observer/Controller Trainer. Retiring in September 2019 with 32 total years of experience.

The Geography of Mars Online Course Design and Development, January 2018-present
Currently designing and developing a 16-week high school-level course covering the Geography of Mars (Areography) and the future human exploration of Mars. The course is designed to be cross-curricular, supporting Florida Sunshine State Standards in social studies, science, and English language arts for grades 9-12. War of Jenkins’ Ear in Georgia and Florida Staff Ride, April 2018-present
Currently developing a staff ride handbook for submission to the U.S. Army's Center of Military History (CMH), providing a thorough analysis of the campaigns in Florida and Georgia by British and Spanish forces during the War of Jenkins’ Ear, 1739-1748. Conducting thorough, scholarly research of the geo-political background, tactics, strategies, key leaders, and battles of this important period of military history in colonial America.

AWARDS AND ACCOMPLISHMENTS:

Guest Lecturer, KSC Space Port Area Conference for Educators, 2018, 2019
Invited as a guest lecturer at Kennedy Space Center’s inaugural 2018 Space Port Area Conference for Educators (SPACE), focusing on exploring cross-curricular and blended learning opportunities in the 21st Century classroom. Developed a Nearpod presentation titled "Mars: Where Social Meets Science" as a K-12 and informal educator professional development session, including a group activity to evaluate and discuss cross-curricular lesson planning focused on the possibility of future human exploration missions to Mars. Re-invited to present at the 2019 SPACE conference, developing an interactive professional development presentation on teaching K-12 learners utilizing ESRI/ArcGIS web maps and GIS.     

Bronze Star, U.S. Army, 2013
Awarded the Bronze Star for service in Afghanistan, April-December 2013. One of only five Soldiers from Task Force Centurion to be awarded the Bronze Star during the deployment. Served as the Afghan National Army Operations Liaison Officer (ANA LNO) at the Afghan National Detention Facility – Parwan (ANDF-P) on Bagram Airfield. Transitioned ANDF-P operations from U.S. to Afghan control and established a self-sufficient ANA operations with minimal U.S. monitoring.
